Winifred Propps

Winifred Brownell Lowery Propps passed peacefully from life to eternity on September 7, 2023.

Winifred "Mom" was born December 5, 1927 in Haydock, IA (also known as Buxton, IA) the

second oldest child and the oldest daughter of Harry and Flora (Campbell) Lowery.

Winifred will be remembered by her many accomplishments as a hair stylist, business owner,

cook and school associate. She will also be remembered for her fiery spirit and words of

encouragement. But she would tell you her greatest achievement was being a devoted mother

and grandmother.

Mom loved the Lord and served as a deaconess at Kyles AME Zion Church where she was a

member for over 40 years.

Winifred loved to cook for her family and enjoyed family gatherings most of all. She loved all

the joking, laughing and reminiscing and the smiles on her children's faces. Mom loved puzzles

the more pieces the better the challenge. She also loved playing bingo and spending time with

her long-time friend Ms. Virgie Monroe.

Winifred (Mom) was proceeded in death by her parents Harry and Flora Lowery; her children:

Winifred Reece, Gregory Reece, Kathy Propps, Flora (Cissy) Jamison and Fred Reece. Her

brothers, La Van Lowery, Frank Lowery, Jack Lowery, William Lowery and Clifford Lowery and

two sisters, Minnie Jackson and Mae Wagner.

Mom leaves to cherish her memory sons, Harry (Sherrie) Colbert, Sr., Anthony (Brenda) Colbert,

James (Dianna) Colbert and Frank Propps and a daughter, Linda (Gary) Russian. Two brothers,

Harry (Donna) Lowery and Richard (Casandra) Lowery. A host of grandchildren, great-grand

children, and great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friend Ms. Virgie

Monroe.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 18 th at 12:00 p.m. at, Kyles AME Zion

Church, 907 15 th Street, Des Moines, IA. Burial will be at a later date at Glendale Cemetery in

Des Moines, IA.

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. You have been a comforting

blessing and we cannot adequately express how much we appreciate you.
