Virginia Ann Tholund

October 7, 1948 — May 16, 2025

Virginia Ann Tholund, lovingly known as Ginny, passed away peacefully at home on May 16th, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 76 years old.

Born on October 7th, 1948, in Kearney, New Jersey, Ginny was the daughter of John and Ann Cammarata. From a young age, she had a deep love for words, whether in the form of books, writing, or her cherished crossword puzzles. Her passion for language and storytelling set the course for a remarkable life filled with both personal and professional accomplishments.

Ginny graduated from Villanova University in 1970, where she honed her love for the written word, and soon embarked on a career that would see her thrive in the world of publishing and editing. Her expertise in the art of language led her to prestigious positions at Redbook and McCall Magazine, before moving to Washington, D.C., where she worked at the main headquarters of Toyota Corporation.

One of the proudest moments of Ginny's career came when she was invited to attend the inauguration of President George H. W. Bush. She often referred to this experience as the highlight of her professional life, a testament to the extraordinary path she carved through talent and dedication.

Ginny's love for life extended beyond the written words, she had a profound passion for music. While living and working in New York, she frequently attended concerts in Central Park and delighted in hearing many of the greats perform live. She was especially fond of the Bee Gees, whose harmonies brought her joy, and she treasured her memory of attending the first Beatles concert at Shea Stadium in 1965, a moment in history she never forgot.

Known for her sharp mind and even sharper wit, Ginny never forgot her roots as a New Jersey girl. She had a way with words that could lift your spirits or set you straight—all in the same breath. She was inquisitive and deeply curious, always eager to learn more—whether about a person, a topic, or the world at large. Her warmth, intelligence, and conversational charm left lasting impressions on those who knew her.

Ginny is survived by her husband, Joel; her son, John (and daughter-in-law Dana); her stepdaughters, Angie (Jay), Jennifer (Matt), and Stephanie (Cody); her brother, John (and sister-in-law Steph); seven grandchildren, and many nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Tom.

Ginny will be remembered for the strength of her spirit, the power of her intellect, and her lifelong love of language and music. Her legacy as a wordsmith and a vibrant, independent woman will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Rest in peace, Ginny. Your voice, your insight, and your vibrant spirit will not be forgotten.
