Thomas Lee Young

Thomas Lee Young, 83, of Des Moines, died Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at the UnityPoint - Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

There will be no formal services at this time, but the family will be celebrating his life together with friends on Saturday the 19th at 5-7pm at Tom's residence of living on Boyd street.

Tom was born February 23, 1939, in Des Moines, the son of Elsworth and Jeanette (Lanning) Young.  He married Martha Sue Grooms.  She passed away January 21, 2013.

Thomas owned and operated Young Auto Sales.

He loved spending time with his family and friends.  Tom was an avid sports fan and was a fine athlete himself.  He liked cheering on the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and NASCAR.  Tom and Martha enjoyed traveling before her death. Tom loved old westerns, and drinking a nice cold beer with a smooth cigar.  He helped many people on his journey and was the center of every occasion, not because he wanted to, but because he was just that cool. Everyone who met him, liked him, and those who knew him, loved him.  He will be missed by all.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Lee Young, II, two daughters, Teri Douglas and Tommie Ann Adams (Greg Adams); his grandchildren, Heather Burr, Billy Burr, Tyler Adams, Amanda Douglas, Shane Douglas, Emma Young and Elizabeth Young.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Martha; his parents; one sister, Elizabeth Breen, and his first son Tyler Haller.
