Theresa Sparks

Theresa "Teri Lou" Sparks, 77, of Des Moines, passed away on March 27, 2025, at Morningstar Assisted Living in West Des Moines.

Teri was born on November 13, 1947 in Fonda, Iowa, graduating from Fonda High School before attending the Iowa School of Beauty to become a beautician. She worked for many years as a beautician at K Santos, where she built lasting friendships and served her clients with dedication. She married Don Sparks in 1983 at the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda.

Teri enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, Don, and their many family and friends. She cherished time spent with her family, especially during holidays and gatherings at the family farm. Proud of her Irish heritage, Teri celebrated her roots throughout her life.

She had a deep love for her dogs, Benjamin and Sasha, and played recreational softball in her younger years. One of her unique trademarks was dressing the concrete goose in front of her house according to the weather or special occasions, a touch of whimsy that brought smiles to neighbors and visitors alike.

Teri is survived by her children, Donnie (Jennifer) Sparks, Donna (Brian) Smith, and Lorie (Bill) Sparks-Cooper; grandchildren, Kevin Sparks, Kristi Sparks, Nathan "Mister" Snowden, and Liam "Laddy" Cooper; brothers, Fr. Francis Higgins, Jim Higgins, and Merle "Butch" (BettyAnn) Higgins; sister, Valerie Higgins; sister-in-law, Mary Higgins; along with many extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald "Don" Sparks; Parents, Ray and Eva Higgins; siblings, Patricia "Pat" Nelson, John "Jack" Higgins, Richard "Dick" Higgins, and Kathleen Higgins; brother-in-law, Charles Nelson; and aunt, Linnie Cunningham.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a future designation.
