Thelma Loraine Spilman, age 100, of Moravia, Iowa, passed away on March 20, 2026.
She was born on August 9, 1925, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Harold and Neiman. Thelma was a proud high school graduate and lived a long, full life centered around family, hard work, and simple joys.
On August 30, 1943, she was united in marriage to Carl D. Spilman. Thelma wore many hats throughout her life. She worked at Chamberlain door factory, in a nursing home, and even owned a bar, Kenny's Tap but above all, she was devoted to her role as a homemaker, caring deeply for her family.
She is survived by her sons, David Spilman; and her cherished grandchildren, Matt Spilman, Monica Fought, and Jason Spilman and her sister, Donna Welch. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl; son, Daniel and brother, Howard.
Thelma found joy in life's quiet moments. She loved reading-especially novels by her favorite author, Nora Roberts-and had a remarkable talent for completing puzzles. She enjoyed taking drives to the lake to watch eagles, crocheting beautiful bed covers, and spending time under her favorite tree and visiting her long time neighbor, may he rest in peace. She treasured visits and conversations with friends, Sue and Roberta, whether at garage sales, thrift stores, or over the phone.
Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery.
