Steven Ray Kennedy

Steven Ray Kennedy, 68, of Des Moines, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at the MercyOne Hospice House in Johnston.

He was born on February 5, 1955 in Devils Lake, ND to Vernon and Olga Kennedy.

Steve lived in Des Moines, IA most of his life.

He worked as a brick and block layer his entire adult life.  Steve's workmanship covers all parts of the Des Moines area, whether it is landscaped walls, brick houses or basements.  He took great pride in his trade.

In his free time, he enjoyed puzzles, collecting antiques and keeping up with the New York Yankees.  Steve was an avid horseshoe player and hosted an annual tournament every October.

He is survived by eight brothers, Keith of Center, Texas, Jerry of Immokalee, Florida, Bill (Mary) of Ankeny, Dennis (Leiza) of Lacona, Bruce (Christy) of Des Moines, Doug (Marsha) of Rathbun, Bobby of Des Moines, Jeffrey of Des Moines; one sister, Linda (Dave) of Runnels; very special friends, Missy Reynolds and Roxy Reynolds and many nieces and nephews.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Merle and James and sister, Lorna.

He will be missed by all who knew him and the many friends that were like family to him.

A Celebration of Life will be at Green Acres, near Lake Rathbun, on April 29, 2023 at Noon.
