Steven Ray Foster, 72, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025. Celebration of life Services will be at Highland Park Christian Church on May 17th from 3-5pm. 4260 NW 6th Dr Des Moines, Iowa 50313.
Steve was born on December 12, 1952, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Harry Joe and Loretta Mae (Duskin) Foster. The youngest of nine boys. He attended Exira High School, where he was active in many sports.
Steve was a hardworking and entrepreneur who owned and operated his own automotive business. Earlier in his career, he worked for Massey Ferguson and later spent many years traveling across the country, selling artwork created by his close friend, Larry Anderson.
Steve loved the outdoors, hunting and gardening. He was a loyal Green Bay Packers fan and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Later he became an enthusiastic supporter of the Iowa State Cyclones after his daughter and son-in-law attended Iowa State University. He regularly enjoyed a game of pool with close friends.
Steve loved to travel and liked exploring new places. He spent many summers visiting Michigan with his daughter, creating lasting memories along the lake. His adventures also took him overseas to Europe and south to Mexico.
Steve had a deep appreciation for the unique and meaningful. He expressed this through his treasured collections of records, movies, paintings, decanters and beautiful rocks.
Above all, Steve cherished his family. He enjoyed spending time with his daughter, Stevie Elise Tenborg (he fondly referred to her as Lovebug), son-in-law Lucas Tenborg, and his grandchildren Blair, Tristan, Aurora, and his longtime companion Melissa Spaur. Steve would often attend sporting events to cheer on his grandchildren.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Loretta Foster, brothers, Doug, Jackie, Keith, Max, Darrell, Dennis, Sterling and his nephew Mark Phippen. He is survived by his daughter, Stevie Elise Tenborg (Lucas Tenborg); grandchildren Blair, Tristan, and Aurora; longtime companion Melissa Spaur; brother Larry Phippen; and many nieces and nephews and great friends.
