Stephen Joseph Steingrabe

Stephen Joseph Steingrabe, 64, passed away on September 3, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born to Jack and Carmen Steingrabe on February 26, 1962, in Des Moines, IA. Stephen grew up in Des Moines, graduating from Hoover High School, and lived in the Des Moines area nearly all his life.

Whether he was fishing on Leech Lake, pheasant hunting, camping out under the stars for a meteor shower, or canoeing the boundary waters in Quetico Provincial Park; Stephen loved being outdoors. Stephen was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes, Kansas City Royals, and Kansas City Chiefs fan. More than anything, however, he treasured spending time with his granddaughters, who held a very special place in his heart.

Stephen is survived by his son, Charles (Allie) Steingrabe of Sioux Falls, SD; his beloved granddaughters, Grace, Maria, and Clare Steingrabe; and his siblings, Charles Steingrabe of Sacramento, CA, Johanna (Brian) Tollas of Windsor Heights, IA, Elizabeth (Alex) Morales of Urbandale, IA, sister-in-law Chris (Jack) Steingrabe of Des Moines, IA; and seven nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Carmen Steingrabe, and his brother, Jack Steingrabe.

Stephen will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am on Monday, September 21st at The Cathedral of St Joseph in Sioux Falls, SD. Interment to follow at St Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD.
