Shirley Ann Woodson

Shirley Woodson, 75, passed away on August 19, 2025, in Des Moines, IA after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Shirley was born on January 21, 1950, to Geraldine and Arnold Howard. She was the second of three children and grew up surrounded by close and extended family. A true "daddy's girl," she shared an especially close bond with her sister Brenda, lovingly nicknamed "Punky."

She is survived by her three children: Steve (Ashley) Woodson, Tammy (Lance) Street, and Shelly Conrad. Her grandchildren include Ryan, Ashley, Zach (Abby), Brodey, Ashton, Lelyn, Tyler, Brittney, Emily, Samantha (Justin), Levi (Kenzie), Jeremy, Blade, Tyler, and Hollie. She also leaves behind multiple great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Sue Howard, and numerous nieces and nephews - all of whom she adored.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Geraldine and Arnold Howard, her sister Brenda ("Punky") Snook, and her brother Eddie Howard.

She attended East High School and, after graduating, went on to beauty school while also working as a certified nurse's aide. Later in life, she joined the Prairie Meadows team, where she worked for 25 years before retiring. It was there she formed a lifelong friendship with her best friend, Jean.

Shirley was a longtime member of PWP and enjoyed garage sales, thrift shopping, taking walks, and playing tennis. Above all, she cherished time with her family and held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren.
