Shelly Sue Doughman, born on February 14, 1967, on an Army base in France, passed away on April 25, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 58.
Shelly lived an exciting, vibrant life marked by fierce love, quick wit, and a heart that always had room for more. Known as the "neighborhood mom" and a human calculator, she was the kind of person you could always count on—whether you needed advice, a hot meal, or someone to simply show up. Her presence was steady, her loyalty unmatched, and her sense of humor unforgettable.
She loved to ride motorcycles—even if she dropped them more often than she rode them—and she cheered passionately for her beloved Kansas City Chiefs every season. Shelly's energy filled every room she entered, and her love for her family grounded everything she did.
Shelly was the proud mother of four pretty good kids—James, Heather (Jose), Danielle (Aaron), and Joseph (Ashley)—and two bonus children, Arlon and Kenaj Claytor. She was a wonderful grandmother to 20 cherished grandchildren, and a guiding light in the lives of many more. Her family was her world, and she gave them everything she had.
She is survived by her husband, Danny Doughman; her siblings, Roxanne (Raul), Mindy, and David; aunt-cousin Kristi; and a host of extended family and close personal friends who loved her dearly.
Shelly is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Marsha Whiteaker; grandparents, Viola and Harold Hauschildt; her aunt, Sharon Hauschildt; and other extended family members who welcomed her with open arms on the other side.
