Shawn Lawson White

Shawn Lawson White, 45, of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away on September 30, 2026, at MercyOne Hospital in Waterloo. He was born on September 16, 1981, in Peoria, Illinois, and graduated from Christian Liberty Academy.

Shawn was a creative and giving person with many talents and interests. He especially loved writing spiritual songs and expressed his love of music by playing both the piano and guitar. His creativity also showed in his remarkable ability to create his own 16-by-16 Sudoku puzzles.

Giving to others brought Shawn great joy. For several years, he sponsored children in other countries, demonstrating the generous and compassionate spirit that was an important part of who he was. Shawn also had a green thumb and enjoyed growing and propagating plants.

Throughout his working years, Shawn held a variety of positions, including working as a desk clerk and at Larry's Greenhouse. He was also a songwriter, allowing his creativity and love of music to remain an important part of his life.

Shawn was the son of Melvin Louis White and Sharon Marie Alger. He is survived by his parents and his siblings, Kendal (Ann Marie) White, Eric (Johanna) White, and Kara (Eugene) Waldner, along with extended family and friends who will cherish his memory.

Shawn will be remembered for his creative mind, his love of music, his gift for growing things, and especially his generous heart. Whether he was writing a spiritual song, playing the piano or guitar, tending to his plants, challenging himself with an intricate Sudoku puzzle, or quietly helping a child in another part of the world, Shawn found meaningful ways to share his talents and kindness.

His life touched others in ways both large and small, and the music, memories, and kindness he leaves behind will continue to be treasured by those who knew and loved him.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place. Services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2026 with a visitation a 3:00 pm and service at 4:00 pm at the Fulton Christian Fellowship Church, 25310 419th Ave, Fulton SD.
