Shannon Millard

June 14, 1968 — April 17, 2023

Shannon Leigh Millard, age 54, of Des Moines, Iowa, died April 17, 2023, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa  City, Iowa.

She was born June 14, 1968, in Des Moines, Iowa, to parents Robert Lee and Katherine "Mikki"  Michele (Kintner) McAninch.

Shannon leaves behind her partner of 20 years, Abelardo "Tony"  Temprana, her three children, Thomas Millard, Taylor Millard, and Cole Millard, and 5 grandchildren, all  from Des Moines, two sisters, Lisa Anne Carlson and Kelly Jo McAninch, as well as several nieces and  nephews, all residing in Des Moines.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Michael Lee McAninch, three half brothers, Robbie, Dale and Verlin McBurney, Grandparents, Forest and Ruth McAninch and Frank and  Anna Martha Kintner, all of Des Moines. Shannon will be missed by many friends at 1101 Crocker, especially her chosen sister, Ellen Turner, who provided care and support for her at home.

Shannon attended Oak Park Elementary, Warren Harding Jr. High and North High School, in Des Moines,  and would have graduated with the Class of 1986. She grew up attending Highland Park Presbyterian  Church in Des Moines.

Growing up, Shannon was a good athlete, playing softball, basketball, and running track. She loved being outdoors and spent most weekends and evenings helping coach her kids' ball games when they were  little.  She was known for being lucky at bingo and casino games and at catching fish.

Shannon worked for Des Moines Public Schools managing the free lunch program and student cafeteria accounts, at Central Kitchen for Des Moines Public Schools until 2006 when she retired due to an injury at work. Prior to her career at DMPS, she was a homemaker and full-time stay-at-home mom,  volunteering where her kids attended school and at Grandview Park Little League. Previously, she worked as a cashier for eight years in the Food Court Kaleidoscope at The Hub, in downtown Des  Moines.

What Shannon loved later in life was spending summer nights out riding the motorcycle with her partner Tony, a local musician. They enjoyed attending concerts, listening to live music and going dancing. They also loved just being at home together for dinner, watching TV.

A Celebration of Life will planned in the near future.

Simplify Cremations & Funerals Iowa, Des Moines, IA. is in care of the arrangements.
