Sara Collier

May 7, 1944 — April 18, 2024

Sara Ellen Collier (Cookie) passed away peacefully at Mercy One in Des Moines IA on April 18th 2024, at age 79. She was passionate about kids and spent her time working as an associate at Brody Middle School before retiring. Sara enjoyed cooking and baking, this often included picking rhubarb from her back yard to make delicious treats to share. Every year once the lilac bushes bloomed she would make sure to have a fresh bouquet on her kitchen table especially around her birthday.

Sara spent so much of her time caring for others whether it was baking and cooking for them, giving gifts of all sorts, and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, crafts, playing bingo and most of all God.

She never knew a stranger and made so many friends throughout her beautiful life. She continued the love for others and her friendships when she moved into long-term care at Wesley Acres in Des Moines, Iowa. She made some very special friendships in her time there, both with residents and the staff. We knew she was loved by many but have learned of so many more that loved her dearly and even thought of her as their bonus grandma. We would like to extend a special thank you to Wesley Acres and the staff who took such good care of her for the past 5 years.

Sara is survived by sons Scott and Michael Collier, daughter Michelle Bruner, grandchildren Nicholas (Haley) Collier, Breonna (Talon) Pierson, Kirstin (Austin) Grimm, Lauren Bruner, Blake (Gage) Collier, Brooklyn Collier, Nathan Collier, great grandchildren Isaiah Grimm, Willow Palmer, Auden Grimm, Asher Starling, Hannah and Benjamin Pierson, sister Jackie (George) Jones, brothers, Morris (Deb) Jones, Chuck (Lynn) Jones along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Gary Collier, her mother Gladys Jones, father Morris Jones, brothers Mick and William Kersey, sisters Avis Kruse, Mildred Dismore, Patricia McGuire and Sally Stucker.

We will miss her dearly but our hearts are happy to know that she is no longer in pain.
