May 31, 1948 — April 19, 2023

Sally Mentzer, 74, of Des Moines, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines after battling Alzheimers.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Friday, April 28, 2023 at Simplify Cremations and Funerals at 4821 SW 9th St. Des Moines, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to her family for a future designation.

Sally Louise Mentzer was born on May 31, 1948 in Des Moines to Robert and Barbara Brown. She became the oldest sister when her sister, Peggy, and brother, Gary, were born. Growing up, Sally loved to read. She was a graduate from East High School in 1966. Sally met Dennis Mentzer at East and was married on October 21, 1967. She admits, she didn't like Dennis at first, but she eventually asked him to a school dance and he must have won her over. Together, Dennis and Sally had 4 children, Robyn, Dennis Jr., Clayton and Todd.

Sally worked for Iowa State Bank, Max Harriman, and the Red Cross. She was a member of the Simpson United Methodist Church. Sally loved watching her soap operas and the Wiggles with her grandchildren. She cheered for the Chicago Bears and Cubs whenever she could. Deep Heating Rub and Vicks were her favorite "perfumes" as she would say. She was a huge Elvis fan, watched all the movies and listened to all his songs. She enjoyed crocheting, collecting knick knacks and being with her family and friends.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis; son, Clayton; and granddaughters, Emilee Jones, and Isabelle Mentzer.  She is survived by her sons, Dennis II (Tanya) Mentzer and Todd Mentzer; daughter, Robyn (John) Jones; siblings, Peggy Curtis and Gary (Sheena) Brown; 13 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
