Russell Robert Twelmeyer, 83 passed away February 16, 2024 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, IA.
Russ was born August 10, 1940 in Honolulu, HI to Eric Twelmeyer and Virginia (Victorino) Brown. He played semi-professional baseball in Hawaii and served in the US Air Force from 1960-1964. He moved to Iowa in 1964 where he met the love of his life, Jean (Weber) Twelmeyer, who he was married to for 57 years. Russ was an IT Manager at Allied/Nationwide Group for over 30 years.
Russ is survived by his wife, Jean; sons Dan (Chico) Twelmeyer and Kirk (Paula) Twelmeyer; five grandchildren, Lauren, Grace, Brett, Peyton and Kyle; and a brother, Denny (Brenda) Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Doug Brown and sister, Debbie Prince.
Russ enjoyed watching the Cyclones and Hawkeyes and most recently Caitlin Clark. He had several nicknames, but his most beloved nickname was "Pineapple". Russ was a one-of-a-kind special guy, making friends who quickly became family everywhere he went - most recently his brothers and sisters at the Eagles Aerie 109. Over the years, he has been known to sing his signature song "Tiny Bubbles" at weddings and other special occasions. His big break came in 1992 when he had the opportunity to sing onstage with Don Ho.
Russ adored family, especially his grandchildren. He loved cheering them on at all their activities and would use every opportunity to share with others about their many accomplishments.
A celebration of life will be held March 4, from 1-4 p.m. at Eagles Aerie 109, 6567 Bloomfield Rd, Des Moines, IA. A short program will start at 1:15 and a meal will be provided. Feel free to wear something Hawaiian as we celebrate Russ.
The family will be honoring his wishes of spreading his ashes in Hawaii.
