Russell Wayne Mchenry

Russell Wayne McHenry, 73, of Des Moines, IA, passed away February 14, 2025 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Cremation rites have been accorded and a private family service will take place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made out to Hope Ministries. Russ was born to William McHenry and Audrey Randall  on July 21, 1951 in Eaton Rapids, MI. He graduated from Charlotte High School in 1970 in Charlotte, MI. A lifelong learner and adventurer, Russ had an insatiable curiosity for the world around him. Whether it was through travel, his many hobbies, or his deep love for nature, he embraced life with enthusiasm. A pioneer in programming long before it was popular in the 1980s, he found joy in solving problems and creating with technology.

Russ's passion for discovery and exploration extended beyond the digital world-he loved the outdoors, finding peace in nature's beauty. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his daughter Colette Zatlyn-McHenry and son-in law, John Muir of Des Moines, IA, three brothers, Ron McHenry, Tracy Ray Bowles, Curtis McHenry, and one sister, Dawn Daval. He is preceded in death by his parents, William McHenry and Audrey J. Mussell.
