Roy Root

Roy A. Root, 74, of Des Moines, IA, passed away Monday, December 18, 2023 at the Taylor House in Des Moines. Per Roy's wishes cremation rites have taken place.

Roy was born on September 27, 1949 in Chariton, IA to Harold and Nada Root. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1968. Roy was a painter by trade and worked at Woodward State Hospital in maintenance. He was on the City Council in Linden, IA. Roy was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club in Linden. Roy loved to joke…one of his favorite sayings is "wake up and pee the world is on fire!"

Roy is survived by his sons, Tim (Aaron) Hayes, Justin Pote, one daughter, Rachel (Karl) Anderson, grandchildren; Seth and Brock Hayes, Noah, Alex, and Ulyana Anderson, sisters; Donna (Rick) Harter, Diane Dowell and Debra, brother, Ed (Tina) Root, many nieces and nephews. Near the end of his life, Roy was also blessed to have met Marshelle, a daughter whom he only recently became aware of. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, JoAnn, brothers, Dennis and Marvin Root and one brother-in-law, Rick Dowell.
