Rose Agnes Babinat (Shanda), 96, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Born on September 26, 1928, in Tama, Iowa, Rose lived a life filled with love, generosity, and devotion to her family and community. She was known for her kindhearted nature and unwavering willingness to help others. Whether caring for her children and grandchildren or offering a helping hand to friends and church members, she always put others before herself.
Rose had a deep passion for homemaking and creativity. She found joy in cooking and baking, filling her home with the comforting aromas of homemade meals. Her garden flourished under her care as she lovingly tended to fruits and vegetables, which she would later can to share with family. A talented seamstress and craftswoman, she spent countless hours sewing clothes, crocheting intricate designs, and embroidering beautiful patterns. One of her greatest joys was making blankets for all the newborn babies in the family—a tradition that will be cherished for generations.
Her love extended beyond people to animals as well; she adored birds, chickens, ducks, and angels—each holding a special place in her heart. She also enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Branson, Missouri, where she made lasting memories. Dancing brought her immense happiness; it was a reflection of her vibrant spirit and zest for life.
Rose is survived by her children: Katharine Babinat (Roy McSwain), Gregory Babinat (Vicki Babinat), Diana Sturtz, Anthony Babinat (Jeannie Bilyeu), and Peter Babinat (Rita Babinat). She leaves behind countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as a few great-great-grandchildren who will forever cherish her love and guidance.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward Babinat; her parents; her son Mark Babinat; her daughter Evelyn Reiser; her son-in-law Kevin Sturtz; her sister Lilian Ruzicka (Edward Ruzicka); and her grandson Marcus Babinat.
A Funeral Mass will be held on March 17, 2025, at Saint Mary Church, located at 11 W Linn St., Marshalltown, IA 50158. The service will begin at 10:30 AM and conclude at 11:30 AM. A luncheon will follow the Mass to honor Rose's memory and celebrate the life she so beautifully lived.
Rose's legacy of kindness and generosity will live on through those who knew and loved her. May her memory bring comfort to all who were touched by her warmth and selflessness.
A burial and celebration of life will be held at a later date for Rose and her husband Edward at the Saint Wenceslaus Cemetery in Clutier, Iowa.
