Robert Dean Rentschler

Robert (Bob) Dean Rentschler, 89, of Boone, IA passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026. Bob is one of twelve children of David and Hilda (Daughters) Rentschler. Bob was born on January 26, 1937 in Iowa City, Iowa and graduated from Ogden High school in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1956, was stationed at Camp Pendelton in California, and was honorably discharged with a rank of Corporal in 1959.

He married Georgine Kaye Kent on September 27, 1957 and they had two children, Ricky Dean and Sharon Kaye. He loved farming and worked in various farming positions in Iowa, Texas, and Alabama. After he came back to Iowa, he joined the maintenance crew at Iowa State University and worked there for 22 years before he retired in 1998. After retirement, he stayed active mowing lawns and tending a cemetery. He loved being outside, whether that was working in the yard, driving around the countryside, or camping out at a nearby fishing hole. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, especially when he could skunk one of his brothers in cribbage. He was well known at the local Hy-Vee where he'd go every morning for hash browns and gravy, even though there was never enough gravy, according to him.

He was truly one of a kind, a proud Rentschler through and through, complete with the family's legendary streak of stubbornness and just enough ornery charm to keep everyone on their toes. He had a silly and goofy sense of humor that brought smiles and laughter wherever he went. He found great joy in helping others. If someone needed a hand, he was already on his way, never hesitating to lend his time, strength, or know-how. His generous heart, playful spirit, and unforgettable personality made life brighter for everyone lucky enough to know him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ernie (Gerald) and Benjamin; sisters Diz (Leona) Kent, Marie Hooker, and Linda Smith; and son, Ricky.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Gary) Pritchard, and her children, Jamy Rentschler and Joshua Pritchard. He is also survived by his brothers Harold, Charles, Leonard, Till (Leland), and Steve; and his sister Patricia Elliot.

No funeral will be held. Instead, there will be a Celebration of Life event on Sunday, July 26, 2026 from 2-4 p.m. at Open Bible Church in Boone, IA.
