Richard Allen Sells

Richard Allen "Dick" Sells, 81, of Nevada, Iowa, passed away at home on September 4,2025. He was born on September 21, 1943, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Betty (Easton) and Azel Sells. After his father's death in 1948, his mother married William "Bill" Etheridge, whom Dick always considered his dad.

Dick graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1962 and married Trudy Perry in 1963. They had two daughters, Stacy and Cheri. He spent twenty years with Square D in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he formed lifelong friendships and became the first in his family to earn a college degree, completing an associate's degree from Kirkwood Community College and a bachelor's degree from Mt. Mercy College while working full-time.

Outside of work, Dick was a skilled bowler, rolling several perfect 300 games, and an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting with his loyal Labrador retriever, Toad.

In the early 1980s, Dick's career took him to Square D's headquarters in Palatine, Illinois, a move that changed his life. There he met and married his second wife, June McDonald. After retiring, they owned and operated Country Club Lanes in Ravenna, Ohio. Dick and June also shared a deep love of animals, volunteering with Rosie's Rescue and opening their home to countless fosters and adopted June passed away in August 2012.

In 2017, Dick returned to Iowa to be near family. He is survived by his daughters, Stacy Sells (Tammy) and Cheri Sells; his granddaughters, Heather Robinson (Aaron) and Grace Wycoff; his grandsons, Jacob Bush, Alexender (Kassie) Bush, and Caden McClelland; and his sister, Cindy Etheridge. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings John Sells, Jack Sells, Sandra Sells and Thomas Etheridge.

Honoring Dick's wishes, there will be no formal services. His ashes will be joined with June's in a private scattering.
