Richard "Rick" Allen Forkner, 70, of Des Moines, IA, passed away peacefully with his wife Lori and family by his side on January 5, 2025. At this time he has been cremated and will be buried at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, IA, at a later date. If you know Rick, he didn't like the cold weather at all. Rick was born on October 19, 1954 in Creston, IA to Harlan and Mary Ellen Forkner. He was born on his dads 30th birthday. They had a very close relationship. Rick grew up and attended school in Creston. In the late 1960's he moved to California with his dad and brothers, eventually returning to Iowa settling in the Des Moines area.
Rick proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for three years and honorably discharged in 1977. He was employed by Iowa Paint MFG for 25 years before retiring due to his health in 2004.
Rick met the love of his life Lorraine (Lori) Neitzel in the summer of 1982. On April 27, 1991 they married and had 33 plus years together. Rick loved being with Lori and they were inseparable the past year of his life. Being with Lori was most important to him. He loved her so very much.
He enjoyed his visits to the casino and the jackpots that were won. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and time spent with his brother Dave having a spicy bloody mary at Prairie Meadows and showing off his card trick Joe and Mr. King.
Rick is survived by his loving and caring wife Lori Forkner of Des Moines, IA, brother, Dave (Suzanne) Forkner of Des Moines, IA, one aunt, Alvie Reed of Creston, IA, brothers and sisters-in-laws, cousins, and numerous nieces, nephews. He is preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, his parents, step-father, Frank Hunter Sr., two brothers, Mike and Harvey Forkner, and one sister, Nan Frederick.
