Pattee Jo (Van Syoc) Mulford, 87, of Norwalk, Iowa, passed away on September 17 th , 2025, in
West Des Moines, Iowa.
Pattee was born on December 11 th , 1937 in Creston, Iowa to Stanley Aaron Van Syoc and
Eugenia Grace (Webb) Van Syoc. She spent the majority of her childhood in Creston, where
she graduated from high school in May of 1956.
Pat married her high school sweetheart, Stephen Eugene Mulford, on November 10 th , 1956.
Pat and Steve had two children, Mark and Beth.
Pat lived briefly in San Diego, CA, Boone, IA, Lubbock, TX, and Des Moines, IA, before settling
in Norwalk for the remainder of her life. After staying at home to raise Mark and Beth, Pattee
entered the work force. Her career took her to Younkers, Bankers Life, and finally Meredith
Corporation, where she retired in May of 1995.
In her spare time, Pat traveled the United States playing duplicate bridge, earning the rank of
Life Master. She was also an avid football fan, favoring the Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City
Chiefs. She loved playing bingo, board games, and occasionally blackjack. Pattee also enjoyed
reading, especially biographies.
Pat appreciated the arts and had a special love for music. She will also be fondly remembered
for her great love of wearing pretty jewelry.
Pattee was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley Van Syoc and Eugenia (Webb) Van Syoc;
her grandparents O.H. and Grace Webb, and Harley & Addie Van Syoc.
She is survived by her husband Stephen E. Mulford; son Mark S. Mulford (Vickie), and daughter
Beth Mulford Younadam (Michel); her sister Linda Jean Bourne; her grandchildren Carrie J.
Mulford, Katie J. Mulford, Nicole Johnson (Brett), Mathew Mulford (Lauren), and Alexander S.
Younadam; great-grandchildren: Abbie (Tyler) ClarkWilt, Noah Mulford, Adalyn Bailey, and
Teegan Bailey; niece and nephew Pennie Tetley (Mike) and Scot Bourne; cousins Mary Sawdy
and Susan Turner; and other nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many
friends. Mass celebrating Pattee's life will be held Thursday, September 25 th at 10:00am at St
John the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 Orchard Hills Drive in Norwalk. Burial will follow at a
later date.
Pattee's giving, fun, loving presence will be missed by all who knew her.
