Patricia "Pat" Wieser, age 90, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her four children and her beloved dog, Stella.
She was born on March 19, 1936, in Atlantic, Iowa, to John and Marie Wood. She graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1954 and went on to work as an employment supervisor for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Wieser, and together they built a life centered on family, resilience, and unconditional love.
Pat was preceded in death by Ray; her parents, John and Marie Wood; her sister, Elizabeth Jacobsen; her brothers, Jerome Wood, Thomas Wood, Timothy Wood, and Larry Wood; and a beloved infant child.
She is survived by her children: John (Theresa); Renee (Jim); Elaine (the late Randy); and David (Kendra). She was a proud and deeply loving grandmother to Melanie (Danny), Jeramie (BrieAnn), Jay (Jonnalyn), Justin (Jennifer), Jesse, Lindsay (Danny), Sara (Zach), Riley (Dustin), Brett (Catrina), Jordyn (Levi), and Sydney; and a cherished great-grandmother to 16 great-grandchildren.
To know Pat was to experience unconditional love in its truest form. She was the living, breathing example of love, acceptance, and grace-someone who made every single person feel seen, known, and deeply special. Somehow, she had a way of convincing each of us that we were her favorite-often with a smile and a quiet, "Don't tell anyone else." And that was just the thing... we all knew that we were really her favorite-because, in her heart, we truly all were.
Her love extended far beyond her immediate family. She adored her nieces and nephews and took great pride in the family she helped create, often looking around with joy and saying, "Look what I started."
Her home was more than a house-it was a refuge. Her doors were always open to anyone who needed a soft place to land, and many found comfort, stability, and love within her walls. Even in times when she had little, she would give whatever she could-often her last penny-always placing others before herself without hesitation.
In her later years, while she remained in her home, her family made it a point to visit daily to help care for her. Yet even then, she never made it about herself. Instead, she focused on making each visit special for the person walking through her door-always thinking of others first, always making sure no one felt like a burden. She tailored each visit to whoever was there that day, a quiet but powerful reflection of how deeply she cared.
She found joy in life's simple and beautiful moments-collecting angels, hearts, and chickens; soaking up the warmth of the sun; and sharing laughter with those she loved. She faced life's challenges with strength and resilience, always emerging with an even greater capacity to love.
Even in her passing, she continues to comfort those she loved, leaving behind personal letters to each of her family members-a final, deeply personal expression of the love that defined her life.
Pat's legacy is one of unwavering love, selflessness, and faith-a true reflection of God's love lived out daily. That legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched, especially in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who carry forward her example of love, generosity, and compassion. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
