Okal Keith "J.R." Searcy III, 57, of Iowa (formerly of Southern California), passed away February 27, 2026.
Born November 27, 1968, J.R. - known to family and friends for his quick smile, easy laugh and no-nonsense wisdom - spent most of his life in Southern California before moving to Iowa about 10 years ago with his significant other Cathy Fiddler.
A devoted father and hard worker, he was proud of the life he built for his family and the example he set with his tireless work ethic.
J.R. worked for more than 20 years at a mobile gas station in Castaic, CA, then spent years hauling steel and large loads of paper for shredding - jobs that demanded long hours he willingly kept. He was an early riser who was never late and who took pride in giving everything he had. He loved music and people: a naturally gifted electric guitarist who could learn songs by ear and play them back with fierce intensity, he spent his younger years playing in a heavy metal band and rocked stages with raw talent. He also loved video games and was a devoted fan of the Star Wars movies.
Family was everything to J.R. He is survived by his 4 children Skye, Claire"Chip", Hannah"Vince", and Grace Searcy, 4 Grandchildren Ethan and Coby Pino, Harmony and Jeremiah Hicks; Sister Terry Kaucher; Brother John Searcy; Niece Sydney Searcy; Nephew Michael Trischuk; and Grand-nephew Damian Trischuk. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy Searcy and Okal Keith Searcy Jr. ("Keith").
J.R. faced recent heart problems but, in his own way, on his own terms he "went out like a rock star." His favorite saying, "It is what it is," captured his practical, humorous take on life - steady, honest, and unpretentious. He was always helpful and there for others he was a good man.
He will be missed dearly. He will be remembered for his generosity, his laugh, his music, and the fierce love he had for his family.
He wished to be cremated that has been taken care of and arrangements for a celebration of life will be shared at a later date thank you
