Norman Dixon

June 1, 1947 — September 19, 2025

On September 19, 2025, Norman Lawrence Dixon passed away peacefully at Every Step

Kavanaugh House in Des Moines, IA after a year long battle with cancer.

Norman was born on June 1, 1947 to Willis and Wilma Dixon in Parsons, KS. His parents

served as Open Bible Pastors, moving Norm and his sisters throughout the midwest growing up.

He graduated from Howard High School, Howard, SD in 1965 after helping the basketball team

win the state championship in 1964.

Norm pursued higher education and graduated from National School of Business, Rapid City,

SD in 1968 and attended Open Bible College in Des Moines, IA the following year. Here, he met

his wife of 56 years, Linda K Ringgenberg. They were married August 8,1969. Their eldest son,

Eric was born in December of 1973, followed by surprise twin daughters, Natalie and Nicole

born in August 1976. In 1986, their final surprise child, Jonathan, was born. Norm deeply loved

his family. In 1998, he graduated from Upper Iowa University with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Norm was skilled in accounting, sales, marketing and customer service. He embodied the joy of

work and approached each job and task with a can-do attitude. Always willing to do whatever it

takes, making him a valued employee wherever he went. In retirement, he found himself itching

to work again and loved his part time position at Home Depot.

Norm and Linda became members of First Church of the Open Bible in 1969 and remained active

members until his death. He served in a variety of behind the scenes positions within the

church. Most notably as the sound and lighting technician helping others to shine bright,

including his wife's lovely voice. Actively involved in his children's lives, Norm also served many

years as a Des Moines Christian School Board Member in the 1980's and again in the early

2000's.

A humble man, Norm led with a servant's heart. Willing to use his time and skills for anyone in

need. He was a jack of all trades, knowing just enough to solve a minor plumbing issue or

replace an alternator in the car. In his 60th year, he built his home with his own two hands (and

some assistance from family and friends). Norm could also pack a truck like it was a big tetris

game.

Norman is survived by his wife, Linda, his children Eric (Shelby), Natalie (Bill), Nicole (Steve)

and Jonathan. Survivors also include eight grandchildren Emily, Megan, Robby, Melanie

(David), Ashlee, Ezekiel and Liam.

Per his wishes the family will not be holding funeral services. The family will plan a celebration

of life in the future. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Church of the Open Bible, 2200 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50310.
