Nancy Jane Stapp McCurdy

Nancy was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, graduated from high school in 1968, and attended

both Northeast Missouri State University Teachers College and William Penn College

where she earned a degree in Physical Education. She worked for many years as a

substitute teacher in the Des Moines metro area and later cared for her mother at home.

She had a natural talent for sign language and enjoyed helping others learn new ways

to communicate. She also treasured family history and preserved recipes handed down

through generations.

A proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the International Order of Rainbow

Girls, and the Order of the Eastern Star, she also found fellowship at Urbandale United

Church. She enjoyed supporting the arts through annual season passes to the Des

Moines Playhouse.

Nancy married Donald Eugene McCurdy on February 7, 2004, and they shared a happy

marriage until his passing in 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald,

and her parents, Gale W. Stapp and Geraldine T. Stapp. She is survived by her sister,

Judy Penland (Jerry) of Kansas, and by cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
