Michael Mayfield

Michael Ray Mayfield, age 70, passed away on January 14, 2026, at The Taylor House.

Mike was born on March 3, 1955, in Des Moines, to Velma and Charlie Mayfield, who preceded him in death.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Tammy Mayfield, and cherished furry companion, Macy; his brothers, Ed, Lou (Peggy), and Chuck (PJ) Mayfield; and his sister, Ann Kellogg (Brian Pender). He was a caring stepfather to Jenifer, Mark, and Britney, and had a soft spot in his heart for two very special children Amy and Josh. Mike was a proud grandfather and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed.

Mike graduated from Tech Highschool and entered work in the sheet metal trade, building a strong work ethic that defined his career. After retiring from Waldinger Corp, Mike returned back to work for Link Associates, a job he found greatly satisfying to assist those with challenges. Mike shared such sweet stories everyday he came home from work.

An avid golfer, Mike loved being on the course and especially treasured his weekly golf group. He also enjoyed fishing trips and golfing trips with friends. Known for his goofy sense of humor, Mike could "speak" in many cartoon languages. He loved Marvel movies and had a fascination with the paranormal.

Mike was trustworthy, dependable, and always willing to lend a hand. He was a very good friend to many, those who knew him will remember his kindness, loyalty, and the joy he brought into their lives.

In accordance with his wishes, no funeral will be held. Mike wanted a big party filled with great stories and wonderful memories. A Celebration of Life will be held on February 19, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Fraternal Order of Eagles, 6567 Bloomfield Rd, Des Moines, IA 50320. All who knew and loved Mike are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
