Michael Dennis Eckert

Michael "Mike" Dennis Eckert, age 71, passed away Thursday August 17, 2023, at Taylor House.

Mike was born to James and Frances (Martson) Eckert on September 4, 1951, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated from East High School in 1969 and attended Grand View College.

He worked in Sales at Leachman Lumber Co. and Rock Island Millwork. Mike also worked several years as an Installer at Windows and Doors of Iowa prior to his retirement.

Mike enjoyed several outdoor activities with family and friends including softball, golfing, camping, canoeing. His son Brandon said he "will miss his kayaking and fishing buddy". His daughter, Allison said she "will miss everything about her dad". His granddaughter, Brooke said she "will miss her biking adventure buddy".

He was a proud and loving "Wiener Dog Dad" to at least two or three dachshund dogs at any given time. They would sit on his lap and together, they would enjoy watching their hero, John Wayne and every one of his movies.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved Dewey-Dog.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving children, Brandon Eckert, Allsion Eckert, his granddaughter Brooklyn Eckert, his former wife Celeste Castle Eckert and his wiener dogs Daisy and Frank.

The family would like to thank the staff at Taylor House for all the loving care they provided Mike in his last days.

At Mike's request, cremation will occur with no formal services.
