Merrie Lou Schoonover, 88, of Woodburn, Iowa, passed away on June 3, 2026.
Merrie was born on December 25, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa. She spent her life devoted to her family and home, embracing the role of homemaker with love, dedication, and pride.
Merrie was a woman who found happiness in the people and interests she loved most. Family was always at the center of her life, and she treasured the time spent with those closest to her. Her home was a place of comfort, warmth, and countless memories shared with loved ones.
She also enjoyed unique hobbies that reflected her fun-loving personality. Merrie was a roller coaster enthusiast and loved the excitement and adventure they provided. She was also an active collector and member of the Pepsi Collection Club, taking great enjoyment in growing and sharing her collection with others who shared her interest.
Merrie was preceded in death by husband of 66 years, Hobart Robert Schoonover Jr. and her son, Ted Allen Schoonover. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Lucille (Lavelle) Gookin.
Merrie is survived by her son, Hobart Robert (Sharon) Schoonover III of Runnells and their daughter Jessie Smith; her daughter, Terry (Jim) Studer and their daughters, Casey (Shannon) Rush of Indianola, Abby (Jeremy) Helm of Woodburn, Samantha (Matt) Fett of Norwalk; daughter in-law, Melinda Schoonover; daughter of Ted Schoonover, Micah (Blane) Siebert and his son, Ethen (Demi) Schoonover; great grand kids, nieces and nephews; along with other family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
Merrie will be remembered for her love of family, her adventurous spirit, and the joy she found in life's simple pleasures.
