Maurice "Morrie" McMurray

Maurice McMurray, age 82, of Des Moines, passed away on January 29, 2026.

Maurice was born on May 18, 1943, to Roy and Alice (Foley) McMurray . He proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War, an experience that remained an important part of his life and identity.

Following his military service, Maurice dedicated over 30 years of faithful employment with the State of Iowa, working in the Lucas Building. He was known for his steady work ethic and commitment throughout his long career.

Outside of work, Maurice found joy in life's simple pleasures. He especially loved visiting Union Park in Des Moines, where riding the carousel brought him genuine happiness. He also had a unique and cherished passion for collecting toy stuffed chickens, a hobby that reflected his playful spirit and brought smiles to those who knew him.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Marilyn and Kathy; and his brother, Mike.

He is survived by his sister, Cheryl Dunagan, who will remember him with love and fond memories.
