Mary Crutcher

Mary Lee Crutcher, age 79, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, at her residence in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mary Lee was born on November 16, 1946, in Iowa to Roy and Ruby McCarl. She attended East High School and spent most of her life in Des Moines, though she lived for a time in Moline, Illinois, before returning home. Mary Lee married the love of her life, Eddie Crutcher, and together they built a life centered around family.

Mary Lee cherished her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved nothing more than having her family together. She was endlessly patient, kind, and giving, Mary Lee lived by the words she so often shared: "Patience is a virtue." Her door was never locked-there was always room for anyone in need. She especially adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took great pride in being present for every chapter of their lives.

Mary Lee found joy in life's simple pleasures: lottery tickets, trips to the casino, dancing with her husband, and going on cruises. She was an exceptional cook and baker, well known for her homemade pies, best-ever potato salad, and legendary monster cookies. Sharing food was one of her greatest expressions of love, especially during the holidays. One Christmas, Mary Lee made goodie trays for everyone-an act of thoughtfulness that will forever be remembered. She also had a deep love for music, especially Elvis Presley.

Mary Lee is survived by her children, Duke Crutcher (Julie), Dale Crutcher and Mary Brown (Gary); 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eddie Crutcher; her son, Doyle Crutcher; her sister Lyn Ignotav; and her parents, Roy and Ruby McCarl.

Mary Lee's kindness, patience, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Now, she is reunited with Eddie-dancing together once more.
