Martin Edward Johnson

Martin Edward Johnson, age 64, passed away on July 18, 2026, in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family. He was known as "Marty" to his family and friends.

Marty was born on May 23, 1962, in Aurora, Illinois, to the late Myron and Ila (Wolter) Johnson. He was Mary's twin brother. When he was five years old, his family moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where he lived for most of his life.

Marty graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1980 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He worked at American Games in Council Bluffs for more than 30 years before retiring in December 2025.

Marty was a wonderful and loving brother who cherished the many lifelong friendships he formed during childhood. Over the years, he also opened his heart and home to many rescued dogs, giving each of them a loving forever home. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Marty is survived by his siblings: Julie Keefover (Bob), Bill Sawyer (Terri), Lynnette Hintz (Brent), Laurie Thomas, Carolyn Brown (Kirk), Mary Najdzion (John), and Connie Johnson, as well as 15 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A celebration of Marty's life will be held at a later date.
