Lynn Michael Bourne

July 31, 1961 — November 20, 2025

Lynn Michael Bourne, 64, of Des Moines, IA passed away on November 20, 2025 leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and family devotion.

Lynn was born July 31, 1961, to Vivian Sorey and later adopted by her husband Larry Bourne. As a boy, Lynn discovered a passion for fishing and hunting, and he carried that love proudly into adulthood. He was also a master of finding the best "hole-in-the-wall" restaurants, with a special fondness for South Union sandwiches-a taste he never tired of sharing.

On Friday the 13th of January 1989, fate introduced Lynn to the love of his life, Lenita, on a blind date. What some might call unlucky turned out to be the greatest blessing of his life. They married on September 9, 1989, beginning a journey filled with humor, quiet faith, and enduring love. Together they built the most nurturing home for their daughters Kari & Amanda.

Music was another thread woven through Lynn's life. He had a special song for each of his girls:Wind Beneath My Wings for Lenita, Carrying Your Love With Me for Kari, and Good Morning Beautifulfor Amanda. These songs became more than melodies-they were reminders of his deep love and the unique bond he shared with each of them.

Lynn was an incredible friend and mentor. Over the course of his many careers, coworkers quickly became friends, and friends became family. He was the king of the office potluck, always bringing enough food to feed twice the staff, ensuring no one ever left hungry. He also loved a good road trip, whether it was a simple drive or a grand adventure. Traveling to Disney was a favorite, where he delighted in making sure his girls met every princess.

Lynn had a special love for dogs, who were constant companions throughout his life. None held a bigger place in his heart than Cami, his beloved Great Dane, whose loyalty and gentle spirit brought him endless joy.

Lynn wore many titles in his life-husband, father, sibling, and friend-but the one he cherished most was Grandpa. He was devoted to his grandsons, Rylan and Henry, who brought him immeasurable pride and happiness. Lynn was also a collector of many things, but above all, he collected lifelong friends. Generous with his time and effort, he was always willing to lend an ear and offer advice-whether you asked for it or not.

He is survived by his wife Lenita; daughters Kari (Justin) Barrington and Amanda Bourne; grandsons Rylan and Henry Barrington; twin sister Cindy (Denny) Costello; brother Bill (Nancy) Bourne; niece Desiree (Logan) Hoffman and nephew Cody Bourne. He is preceded in death by his parents, and Uncle Darrell Sorey.

Though his big booming voice may no longer echo in the room, Lynn's laughter, love of family, devotion to his grandsons, and generosity of spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His life reminds us that joy can be found in the simple things-family dinners, a good fishing spot, a sandwich worth driving across town for, a road trip with loved ones, the unconditional love of a faithful dog, and the wisdom of a friend who always had something to say.

A celebration of life is planned for 11am December 13, 2025 at Indianola Church of Christ (1112 E. Iowa, Indianola, IA).
