Linda Sherman Powers

Linda Sherman Powers, age 80, passed away at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on October 25, 2026.

Born in Hampton, Iowa, on March 7, 1946, Linda was the daughter of Leonard Francis Sherman and Elvera Irene Koop. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Central College and led a fulfilling, varied career serving as an Insurance Supervisor, Teacher, and Homemaker. Throughout her professional life, she worked with Corroon and Black Insurance, Booz, Allen and Hamilton Brokerage House, and the Aplington-Parkersburg School District. She spent many years volunteering for many Democratic campaigns and would happily chat about politics with anyone that would listen.

On March 23, 1975, Linda was united in marriage to William Hall Powers, with whom she shared a devoted life until his passing.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Hall Powers and her brother Gary Koop.

Linda is survived by her extended family, including her son, John (Heather Heit) Powers and daughter, Christina (Stentor Danielson) Powers. She loved bragging about her 7-year-old identical twin grandsons Logan and Liam Powers, from her son John.
