Linda Susan Ibbotson, 75, of Waukee, Iowa, passed away on October 9, 2026, at MercyOne West Des Moines Medical Center. She was born on July 11, 1951, in Beatrice, Nebraska, to Ben James Cook and Ruby Truman.
Linda was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend whose greatest joy in life was caring for the people she loved. Her home was more than just a place to gather; it was a safe haven where family, friends, and loved ones were always welcomed with open arms and a good, home-cooked meal.
Throughout her working years, Linda held a variety of positions that reflected her hardworking and caring nature. She owned and operated a daycare, worked as a CSM at a nursing home, provided home health care, and owned an antique mall. Her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to helping others were evident in the many roles she embraced throughout her life.
Linda was married to Jim Taylor on June 16, 1975 and they shared 17 years together until his passing in April of 1993. On May 21, 1994, Linda married Jeffery Lee Ibbotson. They shared nearly 24 years of marriage before his passing on March 22, 2018.
Linda loved planning birthday dinners and family gatherings, finding happiness in bringing people together and creating special memories. She especially enjoyed reminiscing about the friends her children brought home over the years. Some of those friends were amazed to discover they could eat as much as they wanted at Linda's house. To Linda, feeding people was an expression of love, and no one who walked through her door ever had to wonder if there would be enough food or room at the table.
Linda could often be found working on a crossword puzzle or exploring garage sales and flea markets in search of hidden treasures or reading a good book. She also had a special love for cats. Linda found happiness in life's simple pleasures and had a wonderful way of making ordinary moments feel meaningful.
Linda is survived by her children, Chuck (Krystle) Taylor, Mike (Tera) Taylor, Buddy Taylor, Jaymie (Justin) Hutchinson, Avery (Kateri) Ibbotson, and Brittany Taylor; her grandchildren, Mathew, Terrance, Isaiah, Madison, Dakota, Dominick, Ethan, James, Mike Jr., Gabby, Isabella, Sydnie, and Taylor; and her sister, Mary (Dennis) Persinger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeffery Lee Ibbotson; her daughter, Lois Taylor; her granddaughter, Victoria; and her siblings, James Cook and Fred Plymale.
Linda's love was shown not only through her words but through the countless ways she made others feel welcome, cared for, and at home. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished, the friends she welcomed as her own, the meals she lovingly prepared, and the memories made around her table.
She will be remembered for her generous heart, her love of bringing people together, and the comforting feeling that, in Linda's home, there was always room for one more.
Linda will be deeply missed and forever loved by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation will take place.
