Larry Dean Osborn, 75, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on May 9, 2025, at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines, surrounded by loved ones. Born on September 15, 1949, in Des Moines, Larry remained deeply rooted in the city that shaped his life.
A graduate of Colfax High School, Larry devoted an extraordinary 58 years to the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. His dedication made him a familiar and cherished presence along his route—more than just a deliverer of mail, he brought smiles and warmth to those he met. Even after a stroke led to his retirement, the bonds he built endured; family members often found themselves retracing his route just to exchange a midday hello.
Larry's passions were stitched into the fabric of everyday life. He was an avid weather watcher and a loyal baseball fan. He found fascination in the cosmos of Star Trek and delighted in a unique comfort: sipping Pepsi with peanuts dropped inside—a quirky ritual that became distinctly his own.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Osborn; his parents, Harold and Lucille Osborn; siblings Gary Osborn and Kathy Osborn; sister-in-law Linda Curry; parents-in-law Harry and JoAnn Hunter; niece Heidi Van Wey; and nephew Michael Osborn.
Larry is remembered by his brother Kenny Osborn; sisters-in-law Jill (Kevin) Thompson and Jennifer (Craig) Berg; brothers-in-law Keith (Teri) Hunter, Sam Hunter, and Tim Hunter; along with extended family who carry forward memories of his humor, kindness, and unwavering spirit.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 22, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Sunrise Park, 5415 E Oakwood Drive. A light lunch featuring Larry's favorite foods will be served as stories are shared in honor of a life well-lived. All are welcome.
