Larry Foster Barr

Larry Foster Barr, 69, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 9th, 2022 at his home in Bondurant.

Larry was born August 5th, 1953 in Glendale, CA to Mary and Carl (Jim) Barr. He grew up in Des Moines, IA with four brothers and two sisters. Larry graduated from Southeast Polk High School in 1971. He worked in the siding and construction industry all of his life.

Larry never met a stranger and was quick to befriend anyone. He always loved a good party, and was very often the life of it. His greatest joy was time spent in the company of his family and friends. He loved to fish, draw, play guitar, and write songs. Larry loved rock and country music and his favorite artist was Bruce Springsteen. He and his son Kyle spent countless hours over the years listening to their favorite Springsteen records together.

Larry loved a good barbecue and a cold beer, and was never afraid to enjoy life to the fullest. In 2008 he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and ended up beating all odds and living nearly another 15 years! Getting to watch his granddaughter grow up was the greatest blessing and deepest joy of his life.

He is preceded in death by his wife Terry (Monk), his parents, Jim and Mary, his brother Danny, his sister Connie, and his best friends Ron Hancock, Rick Willey, Ron Schuler, and Marvin Anderson. He is survived by his family, son Kyle, daughter-in-law Kathy, and his beloved granddaughter Mina, in addition to his stepson Denny Paul (D.P.) Crook, whom he raised as his own, and stepchildren Brian and Kelly Schaffer.

In lieu of memorial contributions, the family asks that you make a donation in Larry's name to the Food Bank of Iowa. A memorial barbecue will be planned at a later date.
