Kevin Eugene Calmer

Kevin Eugene Calmer, 62, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on August 18, 2026, surrounded by his family and close friends following a short but courageous battle with bile duct cancer. True to who Kevin was, he fought until the very end, surrounded by the people he loved.

He was born on February 2, 1964, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Merle and Shirley Calmer, and attended Roland-Story High School.

Kevin proudly served his country in the National Guard. After his military service, he worked at Gates Rubber Company and Ball Plastics before beginning a 16-year career with the State of Iowa at the Woodward Resource Center.

Kevin knew how to enjoy life and, more importantly, the people around him. He was an avid Raiders fan, and you rarely saw Kevin without some type of Raiders attire-a Raiders hat, T-shirt, or something else proudly showing his team spirit. He looked forward to Football Sundays spent in his garage, cheering on his team, cooking a meal, and enjoying the day with family and friends. His garage was often more than just a place to watch football-it was a place where people gathered, stories were told, food was shared, and memories were made.

Kevin rarely met a stranger. You could hardly take him anywhere without him stopping to talk to someone, tell a joke, or ask how they and their family were doing. He genuinely cared about people and always seemed to know someone wherever he went.

Kevin loved being outdoors and making memories. He enjoyed sitting outside with a morning cup of coffee with Jayne, Kody, or his brother Tad. He enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, and getting together with family and friends. He enjoyed taking trips. Whether exploring a new place, visiting a winery or brewery, enjoying good food, or simply spending time together, Kevin loved the adventure and the memories made along the way.

He also loved to cook. Kevin took great pride in his smoker and loved preparing food for family and friends. He eventually began catering events, sharing his love of cooking with family, friends, and people throughout the community. For Kevin, food was never just about the meal-it was another way to bring people together.

Kevin was the son of Merle Sr. and Shirley Calmer who preceded him in death. He is survived by his longtime wife and partner, Jayne Calmer; his son, Kody Calmer (Anna); his stepdaughter, Amanda Stukenholtz (Tim); his stepson, Adam Pfannes (Lindsey); and his grandchildren, Kamie, Liam, Antonio, Eliana, Lincoln, Cooper, Bentley, and Tucker. He is also survived by his siblings, Tad Calmer, Kim Calmer Buck, and Sheila Thompson (Michael), and his stepmother, Linda Calmer.

Kevin will be remembered for his generous spirit, his sense of humor, his love of good food and football, and most of all, his love for the people around him. The meals he cooked, the stories he told, the football games he watched, and the countless hours spent laughing and talking with family and friends will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved him.

Kevin will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the lives he touched will remain a part of those who loved him.
