In Loving Memory of Kevin Leroy Brown Jr. "Pooh"
Kevin Leroy Brown Jr., affectionately known to family and friends as "Pooh," was born August 27, 1995, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Yvonne James and Kevin Brown. Kevin was raised with the love and guidance of his mother, father, and stepfather, Miles Wilkerson, along with the special love and presence of his grandmother, Paula Butts.
Kevin grew up in Des Moines and proudly graduated from East High School as an East High Scarlet. He loved football and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He also loved to cook and enjoyed bringing people together through food. Kevin was hardworking and spent time working for a moving company, where his strength, work ethic, and willingness to help others served him well.
Anyone who knew Kevin knew that he was funny. He had a way of making people laugh simply by being himself. He was also someone people could turn to for advice and encouragement. Since his passing, the stories shared by those who knew him have shown his family just how many people he helped, encouraged, and impacted along the way.
Kevin shared a very special bond with his mother, Yvonne, whose passing on September 20, 2025, deeply affected him. Even through his grief, Kevin continued moving forward with strength. He carried his mother's love and memory with him, and his family remained incredibly proud of the man he was becoming.
To his family, Kevin was simply our Pooh-a beloved son, grandson, brother, family member, and friend. He was precious to those who loved him, and his humor, personality, heart, and presence made him truly one of a kind. Having Kevin as a brother was a gift his siblings will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
On September 26, 2026, Kevin unexpectedly transitioned from this life at the age of 31. Though his time here was far too short, the love he gave and the memories he created will remain with his family forever.
Kevin was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Yvonne James; Clotense Brown-Smith; and Steven Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory his grandmother, Paula Butts; his father, Kevin Brown; his stepfather, Miles Wilkerson; and his loving siblings: LaTrienda Murguia, LaShae Brown, Kavonna Brown, Tiara Ribiero-Ingram, Marqui Craddock, Xavier Craddock, and Gregory Ingram. He also leaves a host of extended family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives were touched by him.
As we celebrate Kevin's life, we will remember the 31 years we were blessed to have him-his laughter, his advice, his love, the memories we shared, and all the little things that made Pooh who he was.
Though Kevin is no longer physically with us, his name will continue to be spoken, his stories will continue to be told, and his memory will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever precious. Forever our Pooh.
