Kathleen Allen

February 1, 1948 — April 4, 2025

Kathleen (Kathy) Lynn Allen, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home on April 4th, 2025, at the age of 77. In keeping with Kathy's wishes, there will be no formal service. Instead, her family will privately honor her life with the scattering of her ashes.

Kathy was born on February 1st, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Paul and Colene Brust. She grew up on an acreage in Johnston, Iowa, alongside her sister Carleen. In 1966, Kathy gave birth to her son, Doug Wright, whom she cherished deeply. Doug was the light of her life, and she supported him with unwavering love throughout their years together.

In 1990, Kathy married her soulmate, Richard Allen, and with this marriage she gained two more sons, Ed and Will. Together, Kathy and Richard spent 22 joyful years, making lasting memories as grandparents to their five grandchildren, traveling, and visiting many casinos together.

Kathy will be fondly remembered by her family for her love of the movie Dirty Dancing, frozen cokes, and the card game 5 Crowns. She had a love of trips to the casino with her family, playing on the same machine each trip. She was a constant source of encouragement and support for her loved ones. She was always eager to brag about their accomplishments to anyone and everyone who would listen. Her spunky sass, infectious laugh, and caring heart were qualities that endeared her to all who knew her.

Kathy is survived by: her son, Doug (Patty) Wright; her step-sons, Ed (Pam) Allen and Will (Brenda) Allen; her grandchildren: Derek (Kaylie) Wright, Danielle (Broderick) Stephenson; Brian (Jeffrey) Allen, Sharlett (William) Patterson, and James Allen; her great grandchildren Carter and Calvin; her sister Carleen (Guy) Freeman; her nephews Paul and Larry and their families; many cousins whom were more like siblings to her; many friends whom she loved deeply; and her caregivers, especially Liz McCrory who she grew to love like a daughter.

Kathy is now joyfully reunited with her one true love, Richard, whom she had eagerly awaited since his passing in 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Until we meet again. We'll make sure to always put a 20 in your machine and give it a little smack for good luck.
