Karen Marturello

Karen Jean Marturello, 84, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at EveryStep's Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Born on April 18, 1941, to Carroll and Dorothy Connett, Karen married Michael Marturello on April 28, 1962, in Des Moines. Together they raised four children on the southside of Des Moines.

Karen is survived by her children: Tammy Hood (Les Hill), Michael Marturello Jr. (Karen), Michelle Pickard (Randy), and Deanna Coop (Michael); her 10 grand children and 7 great-grand children who knew her as Nana. She always knew how to make Christmas magical for her grandkids—her favorite holiday. Her famous pasta and a living room packed with gifts were hallmarks of her joy and generosity.

Karen enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grand children, going to the casino and playing bingo which brought her a sense of fun and excitement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Marturello; brothers, William Connett and David Connett, sister Barbara Hussman and her parents, Carroll and Dorothy Connett.

A celebration of life will be held at Yellow Banks Park, Shelter #1 on Sunday June 22nd, from 1:00 - 4:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to EveryStep's Kavanagh House in Des Moines, reflecting Karen's appreciation for the compassionate care she received. A private memorial service will be held to honor Karen's life.
