Julie Jean Gilbert

Julie Jean Gilbert, 79, of Norwalk, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on October 10, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by her funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Simplify Cremations and Funerals, located at 4821 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50315. Interment will take place in the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Julie was born on April 19, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa, to James McCauley and Francis Parkinson. She obtained a scholarship for art and worked hard as a housekeeper while also taking pride in being a homemaker. She also received a certification from a food and nutrition class from Iowa State University. Throughout her life, she wrote two books, one on small businesses and the other named, "The Mall People."

Julie had a passion for Cityville and was an amazing artist. She loved singing and had an incredible voice, always staying busy and engaged. She was a devoted fan of Elvis Presley and Rickie Nelson. Julie also had a strong bond with her beloved dog, Cubby. However, above all, her family was her greatest joy, including her brothers and sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her twin sons, Larry (Kimberly) Gilbert of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Terry (Michelle) Gilbert of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; her daughter, Connie (Luke) Scott of Norwalk, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Candy Gilbert of Indianola, Iowa; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry Gilbert, her sons Allen and James Gilbert, grandchildren Kara and Tony Haegele, and great-granddaughter Ashlynn Doll.
