Joseph "Tony" Anthony Daggett, 74, went to be with Jesus on November 22, 2024, at Mercy Hospital. He was born September 4, 1950, in Des Moines, Iowa to Joseph P. and Jacqueline (Hudson) Daggett.
Tony graduated from Tech High School, Class of 1968. After he graduated, he attended and earned his bachelor's degree and later a master's in education from Drake University. After college, he went on to have an impactful career as a teacher. He worked for the Des Moines School District as an elementary teacher for 32 years. While he was teaching, his brother John set him up on a blind date. The blind date turned into a wonderful marriage to Roberta (Shuler) Daggett. They were always working together with their art projects, like shadow puppets, snowmen posts, and a million other wonderful projects. They celebrated 47 years of marriage this year. During their marriage, Tony also became a licensed pastor. He served as a pastor and had a church for several years.
Tony was an avid reader and could be seen with his e-reader everywhere he went. He also enjoyed woodworking, cooking, and spending time with his family, especially at Thanksgiving, which was his favorite holiday. He loved being surrounded by his family. He was a loving husband, father, and papa. He was a very determined, strong, and wise person, and a little ornery as well.
He was predeceased by his parents, his older brother John, and two children, Heather and Johnathan. Surviving him is his wife, Roberta (Shuler) Daggett, his daughters Carissa Daggett of Johnston, Megan Crouse and her husband Shaun of Carlisle, Kelsey Mazer and her husband Joshua of Des Moines; Six granddaughters, Ariella Crouse, Evangelina Crouse, Nevaeh Mazer, Penelope Mazer, Aurora Mazer, Hazel Mazer; one sister, Kathleen Daggett of Des Moines, one brother, William Daggett and his wife Jodi, of Altoona.
A celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at West Des Moines Open Bible 1100 Ashworth Rd. West Des Moines. There will be a visitation from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with the celebration of life service taking place immediately following at noon. A luncheon will be provided after the service.
