John William West

John William West, 84, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026.

John was born in Des Moines on November 27, 1941, to William Michael and Margaret Elizabeth (Hussey) West. He grew up in Des Moines and spent many years working as a welder, taking pride in his work and the skills he developed throughout his career.

John had a love for sports of all kinds and especially enjoyed bowling. He was a member of a bowling league and proudly bowled several perfect 300 games throughout the years. When he wasn't following sports, John could often be found listening to country music, fishing, or enjoying time traveling and seeing new places.

John will be remembered for the many interests he enjoyed and the memories he made with his family and loved ones. He also held a special place in his heart for his two beloved dogs, who were faithful companions to him.

Those left to cherish John's memory include his daughters, Rhonda West, Carolyn Stevenson and Lisa Stevenson; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Gary West; and his two beloved dogs.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry West; parents, William and Margaret West; and three brothers, Roger West, Tom West, and David West,

John will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
