John Gregory Phillips

John Gregory Phillips, 60, of Des Moines, IA passed away surrounded by his family at home on July 22nd, 2024.

John was born June 29th, 1964 at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

John worked at Broadlawns Medical Center in Sleep Medicine as a Polysomnograher for the last 10 years. John was at the beginning of the first Registered Polysomnograhers in the Sleep Medicine field. John was passionate about his career which he enjoyed for the past 34 years. Helping patients with their sleep, the funny thing is he never slept.

John was a loving, caring son, brother, husband, father, and papa. John enjoyed life and having fun by doing things like boating, riding motorcycles, biking, golfing, sensei John John, and always having a good time wherever he went. Everyone in John's life enjoyed his big personality like his big practical jokes on everyone he encountered. John will always be remembered by everyone he met during his lifetime on this earth and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Samantha Phillips; his two sons, Sir Gregory Phillips and Sir Brandon Phillips; his one daughter, Nicole (Kody) Harrison; grandson, Sir Winston Phillips; his father, John Phillips and Jolene; his brother, Gary (Tobie) Anderson; his sisters, Diana (Kenny) Hartzer, Alyson (Jeff) Harrison, and Janice Keller, as well as many nieces and nephews, many great great-nieces and nephews, and many close friends.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Phillips; his sister, Marjorie Anderson; his brother, Rick Copeland, and his niece, Shawna Smith.

A visitation for John will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Simplify Cremations and Funerals, 4821 SW 9th St., Des Moines. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Join the family for refreshments, after the service in the Refreshment Room.
