Joann Rosetta Martin

October 3, 1940 — October 28, 2022

JoAnn Rosetta Martin, 82, of Des Moines, died Friday, October 28, 2022, at the Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines.

A Celebration of Life will take place at the beginning of the summer in 2023.

JoAnn was born October 3, 1940, in Des Moines, the daughter of Jesse and Ruby (Thompson) Palmer. She married Arthur Edwin Martin on September 5, 1956.  He passed away on February 5, 2014.

She worked at Walgreens for 35 years and was a tutor for special needs children at Howe Elementary for six years.

JoAnn LOVED planting flowers, gardening and her pool.  She enjoyed cooking and loved her dogs, Heidi, Carmen and Sunny.  Joann was religious and enjoyed reading the Bible.  At a young age, JoAnn's mother passed away, leaving her the monarch of her siblings, whom she cherished.  She had a special love for her brothers and sister.  JoAnn was a caretaker to many, including her husband as he became ill later in life.  JoAnn helped raise her two grandsons, Arty and Aaron, as if they were her own.  She had a special love for each one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Mom, you crossed the pearly white gates and you have earned your angel wings.  Now you can fly high with Dad and be rejoiced with your lost loved ones.

Survivors include her children, Lisa Mireles and Arthur Edwin Martin Jr.; her step-daughters, Connie Sonnenburg and Victoria Von Stein; grandchildren, Bronwyn K. Vonstein, Nate Vonstein, Arty Courtney, Stephanie Martin, Michelle Lee Mireles, Joseph Andres Mireles, Aaron Martin, Carrie Kapral and Kasey Riley; great-grandchildren, Emelia Mae Ann Mireles and Elora Ivy Mireles; her sister, Beverly Schoodyke.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; her parents; two brothers, Robert and Jim Palmer and one great-grandchild, Jordan Von Stein.

Simplify Cremations & Funerals Iowa, Des Moines, IA. is in care of the arrangements.
