Jerry Lee Mickens

May 4, 1964 — Sep 7, 2026

Jerry Lee Mickens, born May 4, 1964, in Des Moines, Iowa, was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He was the son of the late Shelia May Mickens and Robert Lee Mickens.
Jerry had a creative, loving spirit and a personality that made him unforgettable. Music brought him joy, and he was an excellent dancer who could express himself through every step. He also had a natural artistic gift and enjoyed drawing. After attending cosmetology school, Jerry developed a talent for doing hair, bringing his creativity, care, and personal touch to everything he did.
Jerry shared a special bond with his family, and the memories they made with him will always be treasured. He was a wonderful brother whose presence brought love and meaning to the lives of those around him. His sister, Ylonda Shook, was grateful for the opportunity to care for Jerry during the final part of his life. Though those days were difficult, she considers it an honor to have stood beside her brother and cared for him when he needed her most.
Jerry leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Ylonda Shook (Shane Shook); his sister, Consuelo Mickens; his son, JeLeVar; and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelia May and Robert Lee Mickens; his brother, Robin Mickens; his beloved granddaughter, Jalameshia Shook; and his great-grandson, Silas Scharnberg.
Jerry's life was a gift woven into the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. His smile, his love of music, his dancing, his artistic spirit, and the warmth he shared with his family will continue to live on through the memories he left behind. His talents reflected his unique spirit, but it was his love and the bonds he formed that made his legacy lasting.
Rest peacefully, Jerry. You will always be loved, always be remembered, and forever be my brother.
