Jeffrey Scott Ball, age 68, of Mitchellville, Iowa, passed away on June 21, 2026.
Jeff was born on April 27, 1958, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Kenneth and Dorothy (Bush) Ball. His father wanted to name him Jeff, while his mother preferred Scott. By the time Jeffrey Scott arrived home from the hospital, it was quickly decided that he would simply be known as Scott-a name that his family would call him throughout his life. As time went on, others would refer to him as Jeff.
Jeff grew up on the south side of Des Moines and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1976. Shortly after graduation, he began his career in the movie theater industry at the Fleur 4 Theatre, arriving just in time for the release of Jaws. What started as a first job became a lifelong career. Over the years, Jeff worked at many movie theaters throughout the area, steadily advancing through the ranks until he became a Regional Manager for AMC Theatres. He later worked for Goodwill Industries and eventually FBG. Wherever he worked, Jeff was respected and admired. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, and many former employees remained lifelong friends who continued to stay in touch long after working alongside him.
Jeff embraced life with enthusiasm and a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed golfing, kayaking, and water skiing. In recent years, bird watching became one of his favorite pastimes, providing him countless hours of enjoyment and peace. He was also an avid sports fan who faithfully cheered for the Green Bay Packers, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
Known for his fun-loving spirit, Jeff never missed an opportunity to make a snow angel and find joy in life's simple moments. He treasured the many close friendships he built throughout the years and deeply valued the time he spent with family. His warmth, kindness, sense of humor, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
For the past three years, Jeff fought courageously in his battle against cancer, with Dana by his side every moment. Together they faced each challenge with determination, strength, and unwavering love.
Jeff was a member of the Reformed Church of America and carried his faith with quiet strength throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Dana Warrick; his daughter, Karen (Steve) Raba; his grandchildren, Ian Ball and Alexis (Dominic) Marsh; his brothers, Larry (Jane) Ball, Michael Ball, and Kenny (Michele) Ball; his two nieces and one nephew, Nicole, Craig (Raquel), and Kendra (Storm); Dana's children, Asheley (Matt) Burch, Deanna (Kyle) Wahlert, and Mikayla Warrick; Dana's grandchildren, Harper, Keaton, Hudson, Gracelyn, and Hadley; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; two great-great-nieces; many extended family members and friends; and his beloved cat, Hawkeye.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Dorothy Ball, and his best friend, Ed Devlin.
Jeff lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind countless memories, lasting friendships, and a legacy of kindness that will continue to be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
