Jason John Zierke, 51, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on June 26, 2026, leaving behind a family and community who will forever cherish his love, laughter and generous spirit.
Jason was a veteran who served his country for three years in the military. A lifelong believer in personal growth and perseverance, he earned his Associate's degree from William Penn University in 2016.
Growing up in Clive, Iowa, Jason was a talented swimmer whose backstroke record at Valley High School stood for many years-a testament to his dedication and athletic ability. Throughout his life, he found joy in riding his motorcycle, celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks and listening to music. His greatest happiness, however, came from spending time with his family.
One of the most meaningful moments of Jason's life came just days before his passing, when he had the honor of walking his eldest daughter down the aisle on June 13, 2026. It was a day he treasured, surrounded by love and family.
Jason was a devoted father who loved being involved in his daughters' lives. He volunteered as a WatchDOGS (Dads of Great Students) volunteer at their elementary school, Lakewood Elementary, proudly spending time in the building supporting students and staff while making memories with his girls. He attended Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church and Lutheran Church of Hope.
Anyone who knew Jason knew his infectious sense of humor. He was goofy, quick to make people laugh and had a heart that was as big as his smile. Whether he was telling a joke, lending a helping hand or simply showing up for those he loved, Jason made people feel welcomed and cared for. His kindness, laughter and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
Jason is survived by his loving parents, Joan and Keith Zierke; Heather Zierke; his beloved daughters, Chloe (Lucas) Farren and Madison Zierke; his brother, Kevin (Meg) Zierke; his sisters, Kathleen Costley and Julie (Brian) Zierke-Clark; his nephews, Spencer (Sydney) Clark and Regan Zierke; and his nieces, Emily (Alex) Stringer, Abby Costley, Sydney (Nick) Zadar, and Amelia Zierke.
He was preceded in death by his brother, David Zierke; his grandfathers, Theodore Zierke and Butler Parris; and his grandmothers, Inez Parris and Anna Mesenbrink.
A funeral service celebrating Jason's life will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, Iowa, with a luncheon immediately following the service.
For those unable to attend in person, a livestream of the service will be available here:

Jason's legacy is one of laughter, resilience, faith and love. He leaves behind countless memories that will continue to bring smiles to those fortunate enough to have known him. Though his time here was far too short, the joy he shared and the love he gave will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
