Jeanette Octavie Somers

Jeanette Octavie Somers, age 83, of Pleasant Hill, IA, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loved ones, on July 2, 2026.

Jeanette was born on August 6, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Edward James and Lillian Cordelia (Fetters) Breese.

She attended East High School and later married the love of her life, Donald Somers. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and caring for others.

Jeanette was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found great joy in caring for her home and family. She enjoyed tending her flower gardens, painting, reading, cooking, baking, and searching for hidden treasures at the DAV thrift store. A talented artist with a creative spirit, she brought beauty into everyday life and inspired those around her to do the same. Her greatest joy was time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Donald Somers; her sons, Brian Somers and David Somers; her grandchildren, Damon Somers, Michael Somers, Leslie (Joey) Bedwell, Erik (Erin) Somers, and Erin (Jeffrey) Boysen; her cherished great-grandchildren: Myah Bedwell, Elin Somers, Ever Somers, Killian Boysen, Emiliah Boysen, Adeline Bedwell, Aurora Bedwell, Maverick Bedwell, and Elas Somers; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lillian Breese; her sister, Joyce Woodard; and her nephew, Clint Woodard.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Simplify Cremations & Funerals, 4821 SW 9th St, Des Moines, IA 50315, with a funeral service beginning at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, IA.
